As a mother, I always question if what I do is enough. Because motherhood is not easy. It’s tough, it’s never-ending, it’s tiring, and it’s very difficult to stay positive. There really is no cheat sheet handed to you when the doctor passes over your baby to you. You have to learn all of it on your own.
Maybe you have a lot of help and support, but all of the responsibility is on you. To care for another human being more than you care for yourself, to put someone else first and tend to their needs, or to teach them right from wrong and protect them from the world. To show them happiness, gratefulness, kindness, and how to be strong.
We tend to get caught up in the demands of our children every day and sometimes forget to sit down and take time for ourselves. But then, we feel guilty when we do. It’s a constant battle in our hearts to choose what is the right thing to do.
Should we be scrolling on our phones or should we be sitting down and reading to our child? There’s endless guilt and anxiety associated with the decision-making of being a mother.
We deserve to remember what a good job we are doing – that we are trying, and that we are doing the best we can. There is no better way to do that than to use a little gratitude journal. It’s a little ray of sunshine that every mother should have and use, to take the time to write in. It’s serves a good purpose, and you’ll never regret it, I promise.
I would like to give a warm thank you to Paige Yelle, the founder of the Little Journal Co., a company that produces these beautiful, inspirational journals called little gratitude journal. She is a real sweetheart and her journals are nothing short of wonderful. Inside you’ll find inspirational quotes, colouring pages, pages to record grateful moments, and more. I am so lucky to have and to hold one and I truly cherish these with all of my heart!
Here are ways that will help brighten up your day and remind you of all of the great things in your life, to maintain an overall positive outlook on life. It’s so important to make time for you, to reflect on all of the good things you accomplish, big or small. Never feel guilty for doing so because you deserve it. And you are doing a great job.
Here are 5 ways of how to live a happy and positive life:
Write down your memories. Record what makes you happy, what you love, what you want, what you crave, what excites you, what your goals are, and so much more. Write down what you need to do in order to accomplish those goals, and most of all write what’s on your mind. Get it all out, it will be therapeutic.
2. Give Thanks
The most important thing to record in your journal is what you are grateful for – the little things in life that make you smile. The things in your life that you wouldn’t change for the world. Why you are thankful for what you have and why you wouldn’t have it any other way. Think simplicity. It’s the simple things in life that matter the most.
Read what you wrote. Read it often. When you are sad, angry, or down and out, you will be surprised how your mind can shift from one spectrum to another, just by reading what you wrote down about all the things that you are grateful to have in your life. It’s amazing how one positive thought can change your whole outlook on life. It’s important to remember those good things, to embrace them, to encourage them.
4. Encourage Your Family
When your child comes up to you feeling sad, listen to what they have to say. Acknowledge their feelings and give them a warm hug. Then remind them of what’s ahead. Maybe they are looking forward to seeing a friend next week or going to the park that day. A positive thought will not only take stress away from you as a mother, but will also change your child’s outlook on life. Those positive emotions will resonate longer than the negative ones.
5. Distract Yourself
Even through the hardest times in your life, always keep busy. Go out. Exercise. Clean the house. Dance. Sing. Read a book. Read inspiring quotes. Colour beautiful pictures. Doodle. Accomplish your goals. That’s what the little gratitude journal is so great for. Remember that keeping your body active is just as important as keeping your brain active. They both go hand-in-hand. That’s why having a healthy mind and a positive perspective all has to do with the mind, body, and the soul.
I hope you all find the time to appreciate the little things in life, to find your own happiness.
