Our Civic day long weekend consisted of picking fresh strawberries at the farm. I highly recommend taking the kids to some strawberry fields this summer for a few reasons-one being that they get to eat fresh organic fruit that are high in nutrients! A refreshing treat.
The strawberries were perfectly ripe and as sweet as can be. I guess the only downfall was that it can get a little messy. The natural red dye seemed to stain their little faces, hands and clothes, but it was so worth it! Their bellies were full of healthy goodness.
What I loved about this day was that my daughters got to explore the farm and run free. They were able to understand the concept that fruits don’t just come directly from the grocery store. They got to experience nature and how our food can grow right from the ground.
After taking home two large containers of the berries, we quickly put them in the refrigerator and froze a few cups in a freezer bag, to later on add to oatmeal and smoothies.
Picking them right from a field is a lot cheaper than paying for a batch at the market, so the more the better! Also, there are no pesticides from the farm we visited, so the strawberries were organic and chemical-free.
Brooke’s “Boho Babe” t-shirt is one of my favourites by Love Struck By Two. You can find this shirt and many other cute mommy and baby matching outfits here.
I hope you all had an incredible weekend!
