As a mother of three active daughters who love play outdoors, it is essential that they are warm and comfortable during the winter months. In Northern Ontario, we get tons of snow and temps that drop into the double digits regularly. That’s why practical and durable snowsuits are an absolute must.

Can you believe it that this weekend in Ontario is hitting record breaking temps?! Believe it or not, it is being reported that Ontario will be the coldest place in the world this weekend, with us (Northern Ontario) reaching -50°C. Here’s to hoping everyone stays safe and warm!
Over the years, we’ve tried many different brands of snowsuits and a few stuck out of the pack, leading with affordability, durability, functionality, and stylish ones too.
Here are what I recommend for moms when shopping for the warmest snow suits for their little ones that check off all of the boxes.

What to Look for in a Quality Snowsuit
- Solid zippers – making it easy for kids to zipper themselves, especially at school. I’m talking durable wear, double stitched, large metal clasps. I think you know where I’m going with this.
- Adjustable length snow pants – making sizing flexible for growing kids, so that the snowsuit lasts for more than just one season. Yes please! This saves you money in the long run.
- Reflectors – great for seeing at night whether at the Santa parade or after a long day of sledding. Never let them out of your sight and rest easy knowing you can spot them easily.
- Double layered knees – it’s all too common for snow pants to rip when you have kids who like to play! Look for that double layered fabric on the knee region for extra durability.
- Removable Hoods – not a necessity, but great for throwing into the wash, or removing for particular outdoor activities like skiing. Definitely convenient.
- Zippered pockets – whether you have children old or young, they may want to collect things during their outdoor adventures, or carry necessities like lip balm. Fleece lined pockets are even better!
Tips for Buying Kids Snowsuits
Always measure! The first step to buying a snowsuit, especially online, is to know your child’s measurements. This way you can easily open the size chart and find their exact size. I find that every brand’s sizing varies, so it’s important to check first before buying.
Once you know your child’s size, determine if you will need to size up depending on where you are in the winter season. If you want room to grow, sizing up would be a good idea if it’s November (beginning of winter). If you’re in desperate need of a good snowsuit in January, you’ll want the sizing to be exact. Again, this can vary depending on which brand and their adjustable length settings (check the size charts!)
